Nice idea for a cubicle headset hanger, but somewhat flawed
This headphone holder for your work cubicle sounds like a good idea on paper. I saw this and thought: what a great idea. I would love to be able to hang up my work headset instead of just leaving it laying on my desk. I’d be freeing up some work space. However, once I started using it, I realized the execution is a bit flawed.Firstly, right out the box, they give you two spring clamps and two holder plates. The spring clamp is what hooks into the fabric wall, the holder plate is what your headset hangs from. Okay, so now what…? It wasn’t super obvious to me how these two pieces were supposed to be brought together. No instructions were included so I had to refer back to the product listing page and check the description. Turns out, there’s this little raised lip at the top edge of the holder that interlocks with the clamp and you’re meant to clip the spring clamp directly onto the backing plate. What I’m wondering is why it didn’t come in one piece with the two hooking prongs already fused to the backing plate. Why this clamp method? It seems cheap. For starters, if the clamp mechanism breaks or weakens, that effectively renders the holder useless. The clamp could lose grip causing the holder to drop down.It’s also only affixed to the cubicle by two thin needle prongs. Not very strong. The disappointing thing is that the holder droops slightly forward due to the weight of the headphones pulling it down. It makes me concerned about the integrity of the fabric wall over time. What if the fabric wall rips or stops being taut from being dragged on. It made me realize that this holder is quite limited. You’d best have a very light headset. As an experiment, I wanted to see how much weight it could handle, so I hung my backpack off it. Almost instantly, the holder snapped cleanly in two. I’m not going to fault the brand manufacturer since I was trying something out that wasn’t its intended, advertised purpose. However, I just wanted to bring this up as an example. Don’t hang anything like your bags or backpacks or coats on this hook. It’s not made for that. It’s strictly for headphones/headsets.In the end, this product is what it is. You can stick it anywhere if you have fabric walls on your cubicle and it’ll stay in place.
