Great relay
I bought this to extend the Bluetooth range between my SwitchBot hub and sensors. I do not use the switching function. As a Bluetooth extender, it works flawlessly. I like the flexibility to use a variety of power sources. I attached an old 24 volt passive POE (power over Ethernet) adapter so I could safely hang it on the wall and plug into any nearby outlet. The instructions list several options for power inputs (100-240V AC; 12 or 24-48V DC). Wiring and setup were simple and its tiny size allows it to go just about anywhere. I’m not sure I would pay full list price (since I’m not using the full functionality), but significant discounts are frequently available. SwitchBot devices have been very reliable for me.

Garage push button wiring.
I wired it in conjunction with one of my led momentary push buttons, 28vac I think. You just need the 120 hot and neutral on the right terminals, then the 2 far left terminals are switched. I don’t think it matters, just the 2 low voltage wires either side. I think you can have it wired into the ceiling garage door opener, but I had an electrical enclosure to use. Good luck on getting Alexa and Siri shortcut to work. Really had to dig deep and figure it out. I did not have to download Matter, even though Alexa wanted me to. I think I only set it up on the, new to me, Switchbot app. Then I was able to get Siri shortcut, then finally somehow got Alexa to recognize the bot. I set the momentary switch duration in the app to the lowest setting I found(1 sec). I can now tell Siri to open the garage, so relieved. All my big garage leds come on when I get home from the Alexa arrival routine, which messes up my garage door clicker reception from my truck is mostly why I went this route if you are wondering. Don’t let the picture fool you, it really is small, might seem bigger in the pic. Just hope this helps anyone going into it blind like I did. Thanks.

Matter, schmatter
Matter was supposed to bring us the nirvana of full compatibility with all home automation platforms. Yeah… We’re not quite there yet. It supports only two transports, WiFi and the newer Thread protocol. Bluetooth is only supported for configuration. So, when you buy a Matter device it’s important to know if it’s a WiFi or Thread device. A WiFi device like this one is likely to require a 2.4GHz network, so if you have a merged 2.4GHz/5GHz network it may require some gymnastics to temporarily turn off the 5GHz. And a Thread device will require at least one Thread hub, like an Apple HomePod mini, HomePod 2, or AppleTV 4k (128GB version only). The Amazon Eero Pro routers also provide that service. Scattering these throughout the house will help the otherwise fairly limited range of the Thread protocol. So, sure of myself as I have a 2.4GHz WiFi network dedicated to IoT devices, and knowing this was a Matter device, I attempted to add the accessory via the Home app on my iPhone. After repeated failed attempts, I finally downloaded the SwitchBot app and used it to connect to the device — this worked without problems and let me connect it to the WiFi. Then I found out the firmware version was 1.2 and it needed an update to 1.5 — the update worked fine, and then I was notified I needed to update to 1.6 — again, it updated without problems. After that, I was able to add it in the Home app — I guess they fixed a few bugs in the original firmware. It was very easy to install, I just squeezed it behind a double switch without problems and it’s been working flawlessly. This is a five star product, however I dinged it one star because of the failure of delivering on the promise of Matter out of the box — that was disappointing. Once you get it working, though, it’s really a great product. Recommended, but remember, update the firmware first.

Good product and make my life easier
Seriously, I am getting up to flip switches (because I saw many of friends house using Alexa to turn the lights on/off), this thing is a game-changer. Slapped it on my wall switch pretty easy—no electrician, just stick it on and boom, smart lights. Now I’m yelling “Alexa, turn lights off!” from bed like some tech wizard. Works every time, no lag, and the switch flips smoothly without sounding like a robot arm. Way cheaper than buying smart bulbs for every room too.

VVF Wiring OK, Works Reliably in Japan (Requires a Japanese Electrical License)
This product worked successfully in a Japanese setup as well. However, in Japan, a license is required for installation. With VVF cable, strip the outer sheath, then strip about 5–6 mm of insulation from the inner conductor(s). When you connect them to the terminal block, they fit snugly and securely.

I’ve used several smart relays, but the SwitchBot 1PM stands out for its compact size and the accuracy of its power monitoring. It was small enough to fit into my existing wall box behind the toggle switch without a struggle. The Standout Features:Power Monitoring: The real-time data and historical charts in the app are fantastic. I’m using it to monitor my washing machine, and I’ve set an automation to notify me when the power draw drops—meaning the cycle is done!Safety First: It feels very well-built and includes overload protection, which gives me peace of mind for higher-draw appliances.Ecosystem Integration: As with most SwitchBot gear, it paired instantly. If you have the Hub 2, getting this into Apple Home via Matter is a game-changer.It has turned a “dumb” appliance into a fully automated part of my home. Highly recommended for anyone comfortable with a bit of wiring!
