Excellent Sound and Easy Setup — Highly Recommend
I purchased two of these as Christmas gifts for my wife, and we placed them on different floors of the house. The setup through the app was incredibly simple and took just minutes to get everything connected. The sound quality is noticeably better than earlier models — clearer, fuller, and more powerful than I expected for their size. They work flawlessly and have been a great addition to our home. We’re already planning to purchase more for the third floor because we’ve been so impressed with the performance and overall quality. If you’re considering these, don’t hesitate — they’re well-made, reliable, and absolutely worth it. Highly recommend!

Great speaker
Works great and sounds great (for its size). It’s a nice upgrade from the regular Dot, and the trade-in deal makes it well worth it.

Alexa+ compatible. A very nice echo Product (the Echo Dot Max), and thank goodness, it isn’t black.
Nice replacement for my Echo Spot, which is not Alexa+ compatible. I got it with a trade in on the Spot, and saved a nice amount of money. Unlike the spot, this doesn’t have a screen, which is in the product description. I am glad about the colour, because I can’t stand black for any product any more. It is almost 2026, so let’s stop with all the black products. This is not the early 1900’s where the only colour the Model-T came in was black! I am glad for the variety of colours, but I would have liked a bright pink so it would be easier to see. It has much better sound than the echo Dot 2nd generation had.For space saving design, I wish Amazon would bring back the “Hockey Puck” version of the Echo Dot 2nd Generation, which was wall mountable with an add on bracket and was nice for sticking an Echo Dot 2nd Gen (not the Dot Max) in a tight space, with no table surface. I still like the Echo Dot 2nd gen for tight spaces and flush wall mounting where it is used for function rather than music fidelity.

Compact Speaker with Impressive Sound and Smarts
The Amazon Echo Dot Max delivers surprisingly full, rich sound for its size, easily filling a room without distortion. Vocals are clear, bass is punchy, and it works great for music, podcasts, and everyday listening. Alexa is responsive and accurate, making voice commands feel natural and effortless. The built-in smart home hub is a big plus, simplifying control of lights, plugs, and other devices without extra hardware. The graphite finish looks sleek and blends nicely into any space. Setup is straightforward, and the added Alexa+ early access features bring even more functionality. Overall, this is a well-rounded smart speaker that combines strong audio performance with practical smart home convenience, offering excellent value for anyone already invested in the Alexa ecosystem or just getting started.

Good speaker
Purchased this to replace a 1st generation echo spot which is not compatible with new Alexa+ format. It worked fine, but never had great sound like many of the echo devices do. I have multiple echo devices including several 1st generation shows, echo 15, echo 5, echo 8, echo dots and echo studio. The 1st generation shows (which still work great but are not Alexa+ compatible), the echo 8 and echo studio speakers have exceptionally good sound quality. The echo 15 sadly does not which is a bummer considering the price and otherwise beautiful screen. The dots are hit or miss. I have one in the garage that sounds wonderful, but others sound like an inexpensive bluetooth speaker. So far, this Echo Dox Max is good, but not great. I haven’t used it solely for listening to music or as a part of a speaker group which is where I really like having multiple echo devices. I’ve been listening to audiobooks and today show radio on SiriusXM and the sound is ok, nothing to brag about. In my opinion it is nowhere near as good as the Echo studio, but it’s a lot more affordable. I had the first generation Echo speaker (tall cylinder) and it was an amazing speaker that rivalled Bose/Sonos. The newer studio speakers are also very good sound wise but look so similar to the dot they are hard to distinguish. The Echo Dot Max came connected to my house setup which is nice. It’s plug and play.

Ok, but not great, needs to project more soundstage for larger rooms
I wanted to love this speaker but noticed a signficant drop in volume and sound stage, this replaced an Echo 1st Gen tower speaker. I thought that for the price this unit would have sufficiently upgraded hardware to be able to perform near to the tower speaker which from what I have seen none of the newer gen speakers equal. The only reason I replaced is that speaker was just showing the blue ring all the time. The quality is acceptable for a small room but certainly not great for family room or even a master bedroom. The one thing I like is the size, this one looks great and has descent audio but certainly not enough volume and sound stage for the price increase from the older spherical dot models. I have several of those and really like them for small spaces. We wanted an unobtrusive speaker for bedroom use without using a show or one of the newer screen style units that have fairly good audio, I have one of those in kitchen and it has been great. As for this Dot Max, for me its just ok and the audio performance doesnt match the price vs the younger sibling models. To date none of the dots or Echos has matched the quality, volume, sound stage and mic array functionality of the 1st gen Echos. That is a bummer as I had hoped this max could deliver in a smaller footprint.

Product Review:The Echo Dot Max itself is excellent. The sound quality is impressive for its size, functionality is solid, and Alexa performs exactly as expected. Once everything was set up, the device worked great and feels well designed. I genuinely enjoy the product and look forward to continuing to use Alexa devices in the future.PURCHASING & CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE (Important Context):I want to provide context around the purchasing process, as it required a significant amount of time, persistence, and unnecessary stress.I originally attempted to purchase two older versions of this product (used). After multiple payment processing issues, I was forced to cancel and attempt to repurchase, at which point the items disappeared entirely and could not be located. After contacting customer service, I was told that no new or used stock of those models remained. After the representative spoke with a supervisor, I was offered a price-match arrangement on the newest model instead. I received an email confirming this offer and was instructed to complete the full-price purchase and then call back to receive reimbursement of the price difference.I followed those instructions exactly. When I called back, I was told by another agent and supervisor that the reimbursement could not be processed until the item was delivered. I waited, received the device, and called again. At that point, despite prior confirmations (now involving multiple frontline agents and supervisors), I encountered repeated resistance to honoring the agreement. The call turned into hours of back-and-forth, during which I was repeatedly told the reimbursement could not be done, despite written confirmation stating otherwise.During this process, I was repeatedly encouraged to end the call without resolution or to be transferred to the Echo/Alexa specialist team, with the suggestion that they had authority over the purchase. This created additional DELAYS & DEFLECTION, even though the issue was not related to product functionality but to a previously confirmed purchase arrangement. The situation became EXTREMELY STRESSFUL, as the purchase required funds I had set aside for essential insurance payments, and an NSF would have resulted in penalties I could not afford. The prolonged uncertainty was disheartening, especially after relying on information that had been repeatedly confirmed. After several hours of persistence and refusing to allow the issue to be dismissed or deferred further, the agreement was finally honored and the matter was resolved.Additional Observation:After everything was resolved, the original models I was told were unavailable suddenly appeared back in stock. I was then able to purchase the two used devices (used) as I originally wanted at the reasonable price they were still listed as.FINAL THOUGHTS:The product itself is outstanding, and I’m very happy with the Echo Dot Max and the additional Echo devices I later purchased. My hope in sharing this experience is simply that internal communication and consistency improve, so customers are not placed under unnecessary financial stress after relying on confirmed information.Despite the ordeal, I remain a satisfied Alexa user and appreciate the final resolution to some respect. But, overall, it does NOT MAKE up for, nor compensate for the Uneeded, undue TIME & STRESS endured, especially after I had mentioned my current Ongoing HEALTH Related Battle. My Opinion:While the product itself is excellent, this experience showed me how difficult it can be for individual customers to resolve issues when information is inconsistent across multiple representatives.

The sound is really good compared to other Echos and after a couple days I do like Alexa+ for the few things I’ve asked. I also like the idea it can act as an external speaker for firestick-fuelled TVs. At less than the price of a decent sound bar for a pair (on sale at least) – it may feel like a waste of horsepower to put them together in the same room, but I’m considering it. An option with just a good speaker and no Alexa that can connect to this one? That’s what I’d love to see next, I’d put pairs of those in a few rooms. The sound? Top end great, it does lose power in low freqs as you’d expect by the size. Mine is in the same room as the good stereo that is also connected to my tv. For a device I don’t have to switch between, the sound is more than acceptable and a big step up from the dot it replaced.

La verdad, el audio se escucha muy bien, es muy linda, lo único es que no obtuve acceso anticipado a Alexa Plus, ya que la compré en preventa

I knew my husband would enjoy this, and he did! He said why didn’t we get one of these sooner. I find the speakers are very good in this one. My friend has one of the other models, but it doesn’t sound as good as this. The sound was very important to me and I am enjoying it. I also like that I can set an alarm while I am busy cooking and save my music to various playlists. I would recommend this item.
