Solid, modern smoke and CO detectors with useful smart integration
We installed three Kidde smoke and carbon monoxide detectors while updating older units, and after a few months of use they have worked exactly as intended.Installation and setup were straightforward, and once in place the detectors have been quiet and reliable. The smart alert integration adds peace of mind, especially when away from home, without being confusing or intrusive. We have had no false alarms or connectivity issues, and overall the detectors feel well-built and thoughtfully designed. These are not flashy devices, but they do what matters most: provide clear, dependable protection.A solid choice for anyone replacing aging detectors and wanting a modern, connected option that still feels simple and trustworthy.

Easy Setup and Works with Ring
These smoke detectors were great. Super easy to set up, which I really appreciated. I also love that they connect to my Ring system—it makes everything feel more seamless. Very happy with them.

No false alarms yet, Ring-app connected even without a home monitoring subscription
So far, so good with two of these smoke detectors. I replaced my awesome Nest Protect smoke detectors when they expired after 10 years with these. The First Alert SC5 that is the recommended follow-up to the Nest Protect has many, many reports of false alarms on the web (check Reddit and other sites). So I decided to go with these because I could link them to my Ring app to get notifications without having to install yet another app on my phone. The process was easy. After installation to the wiring in my house, I restored power and the detectors stay in Wi-Fi setup mode for 15 minutes, which gave me enough time to set up both in the Ring app. Make sure you keep track of the bar codes on the manual on each and where you installed the corresponding detector (if you bought more than one). You will need to scan the barcode on the manual or on the back of the detector during setup. If you don’t keep track of the bar codes on the manuals and where you installed each, you will need to remove the smoke detector to get to the proper barcode on back so you can name the detector properly (hallway, kitchen, etc.). It has been about two weeks and I haven’t had any false alarms, thankfully. That is always my worst fear when I get new detectors. These were a decent value at the time for app-connected smoke detectors and the compatibility with Ring’s home monitoring is a plus for those who subscribe (I do not because I use SimpliSafe, who does not have wired smoke detectors, but I will still get notices on my phone if these go off). Recommended! I will update if I ever get a false alarm.

Great replacement for an ancient firex alarm
I wasn’t aware when I bought this that it was part of the Ring system, and honestly, that’s on me for not paying attention. But it turned out to be a nice surprise. I had an old FireX smoke alarm that the state fire inspector said needed replacing. He mentioned Kidde had taken over FireX, so I got an adapter for about $22. This Kidde Smart Smoke Detector fit right in and worked perfectly. When I set it up, I realized I needed the Ring app. If you already have any Ring devices, this is a great addition. It was super easy to set up, took about five seconds in the app, and now I’m actually tempted to explore more Ring products. The notifications are customizable, and it gave me a great impression of the Ring ecosystem. In the end, I can only give it five stars. It fits perfectly, went up easily, and now I just wish I had more Ring stuff to go with it. If you have any Ring products, this is a fantastic addition.

Great replacement solution
This product worked well for me and was easy to install. I did not know that wired smoke and carbon detectors are designed to only last around 10 years. So, just replacing backup batteries and resetting the alarm wasn’t working. This updated replacement fit my existing ceiling mounts and I like that they are also Wifi enabled. Shouldn’t need to worry about it for another 10 years.

The first smoke/co detectors directly integrated into the Ring universe
These are the first smoke/co detectors directly integrated into the Ring universe. I previously purchased their earlier iteration which were z-wave but still worked well with my Ring alarm system. I WISH they were also available cordless, as there is not always a wired connection where I wanted to put them. Having said that, I had no trouble wiring them into the existing system and they very quickly hooked into the Ring system without fuss. Can’t vouch for their sensitivity to smoke/co (and I hope I never need to), but this brand has been around forever and seem to be well regarded.

Wired Ring detectors are a win for me.
This is the alarm that I have been waiting for – I just wish they had invented it sooner. All of the alarms in my house are currently a battery operated version that was the only one I could find that worked with Ring. I love that these are hard wired. That feels more reliable to me – and I’m hoping – the batteries will last longer. I don’t love that it has batteries at all, but this is definitely a step in the right direction. I’m curious to see how long the batteries will last. Also, the battery operated models that I currently have seem to have two separate integrations – this smoke detector and the CO detector – so every alarm has to be installed and named twice, whereas this model is a single installation for both smoke and CO – the simplicity of that speaks to me. But here’s the one big negative that I will speak to: So far, this is the only alarm that I have replaced, and I don’t want to spend $1000 to replace all of my alarms at once, but until I replace all of my alarms, now they won’t ring together anymore. It would be nice if the Ring alarm would trigger both the old and the new alarms when either are triggered. Hint hint.
