A robust hardware Firewall, the Software suite License unlocks the full power of the unit
As a small business owner or professional content creator, securing your network has pride of place when it comes to emerging cyber threats. The Zyxel USGFLEX50H ZyWALL High-Speed Cyber Security Firewall is the latest addition to my cybersecurity toolkit, and it offers a wealth of features to suit a variety of needs. This version has a number of upgrades compared to the one before it including firewall throughput, concurrent sessions, number of users and more. The company also offers a number of models above this level supporting even more users so that you can tailor your security coverage to match the needs of your business. All units are fanless, and some higher-tier models are also rack mountable.Beyond the bare bones offering at setup, you need to consider the addition of the robust software suit as a cost of doing business (trust me, you want this, it’s worth it). Ask yourself how much is security and peace of mind worth to you? and make the right choice. The Zyxel USGFLEX50H ZyWALL High-Speed Cyber Security Firewall is a silent sentry ready to protect your business from cyber threats. It’s a 5-star product that I highly recommend.

A great device but it would be good to offer some basic 1-2 year included licensing
A pretty decent security device, been using Zyxel products for a long time. Licensing costs are a little off-putting unless you go with the basic offering, it seems you might be better off getting a device that already includes them for a better value if you need more than that. Smaller and more of a sit on the shelf device so I’d assume it’s meant more for small businesses/office environments. Fairly easy to setup, the port labeling is very generic, make sure you refer to the manual for the WAN/LAN ports, kind of an oversight that these aren’t labeled by default. Doesn’t seem to impede internet speeds that I’ve noticed. It still functions as a security device should just be aware of the additional costs.

High Annual Cost for Advanced Firewall Features
Don’t Buy It due to high equipment cost and high on-going advanced firewall subscription.Overall physical build is solid and is a good router with firewall that performs okay under load in my testing with just over 300 Mbps through the firewall. If you have a 300+ Mbps internet connection, this router might not be for you since the fully enabled firewall packet analysis will reduce your internet speed to about the 300 Mbps range. The unit is easy to setup with both web UI and mobile app and its security features were good enough to fend off my basic penetration testing under the trial period. The initial cost of the equipment in on level with most descent “firewall” routers. However, the near $200/Year subscription for the package that includes the IDS/IPS features I look for isn’t worth it. There are several other brands that that perform just as well, cost a bit more, but their comparable advanced threat features are free or more affordable making their lifetime total cost significantly less.

Solid, Reliable Firewall for Small Networks
This Zyxel firewall has been an excellent addition to my network. Performance has been fast and stable, and it handles security tasks without slowing anything down. Setup was straightforward, and once configured it has been very reliable day to day.The feature set is strong for a small to mid sized environment, and the Nebula Cloud integration makes monitoring and management convenient. For anyone looking for a dependable hardware firewall with good performance and flexibility, this is a great choice.

Decent but be Aware of ANNUAL LICENSE COSTS
I overall don’t have any major problems with this device. I was caught off guard by the license costs that sort of kill the affordability factor of this device. Licensing costs for the gold security license are more annually than the physical hardware. The device itself is small and easily fits on a shelf or in a network rack. Being so small it doesn’t draw too much power either. It was easy to setup, but you need to be aware of the default WAN and LAN ports during the initial configuration. I havent run into any issues with connectivity or speed, it is able to keep up with my 1gbps internet connection just fine. Overall functionality depends a bit upon the licensing you use with the device, you get more features for more expensive licenses. It has some functionality as is, but at least a basic license is really needed, luckily the entry licenses are pretty affordable at around $60/year. Overall it is a decent device, it might not be my permanent solution due to the licensing and other products available for that price once licensing is factored in. But it does its job adequately.

Excellent hardware!
I’ve been running this Zyxel firewall in a small office network of 18 users, and it’s delivered reliable performance and security well above expectations for its size and price point. Setup through Nebula Cloud was straightforward – the firewall registered automatically once connected, and the dashboard guided initial configuration with clear prompts for WAN setup, VLAN assignment, and policy creation.Throughput is excellent for a compact unit. With all security services enabled, including intrusion detection and content filtering, it consistently maintains near-gigabit performance with no latency spikes. The internal hardware handles multiple VPN tunnels, concurrent sessions, and bandwidth management effortlessly. Remote users connect securely using SSL VPN with consistent speeds and stable handshakes.Nebula Cloud integration is a real strength. From the web interface, I can monitor real-time traffic, view device activity, and deploy firmware updates remotely without downtime. The security reporting is detailed yet intuitive, offering threat logs, blocked content summaries, and intrusion attempts categorized by severity.Build quality is solid – the metal chassis runs cool and operates silently. It’s compact enough for desktop placement yet feels industrial-grade. In testing, failover from WAN1 to WAN2 triggered instantly without dropped connections.
